Cutters New Mascot Has
a Name!
Over 1,100 Entries
Submitted for Contest
After careful consideration by the judges, who included retired Cutters mascot Rusty Roughcut, the new character will be called “Boomer”.
“We had a wealth of great names to choose from and a lot of thought and effort went into picking a name”, said Cutters Vice-President General Manager Doug Estes. “ In the end we felt the name would be easy for kids to remember and fit well with our lumber theme.”
Back in the Williamsport lumbering days, the Susquehanna Boom was a system of cribs and chained logs in the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, designed to catch and hold floating timber until it could be processed at one of the nearly 60 sawmills along the river between Lycoming and Loyalsock Creeks.
The name “Boomer” was submitted by nine different contestants and after a random drawing of all the qualified entries, Howie Biichle of Montoursville was chosen the winner. Howie will receive a 2008 Crosscutters season ticket, $100 in Cutters Cash, a Cutters cap and the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial 1st pitch on Opening Night ’08 on June 20 at Historic Bowman Field when Boomer makes his game debut.
“Boomer” responded to his new name by saying, “I love it! It fits me perfectly, thanks Howie. I can’t wait for the season to start so I can meet all the great Cutters fans, my new best friends!” Former Cutters mascot Rusty Roughcut announced in December that he was leaving the team to pursue his life long dream of competing in professional lumberjack competitions.
The Crosscutters 2008 season begins June 17 in Mahoning Valley. Season tickets, Bonus Books and new Cutters mini-plans are now available online at www.crosscutters.com or by calling (570) 326-3389.
