Cutters Seek Name For New Mascot A “Name the Mascot” contest, being presented in partnership with the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, will begin this Sunday, March 16. The new mascot was recommended by former Cutters mascot Rusty Roughcut, who announced in December that he was leaving the team to pursue his life long dream of competing in professional lumberjack competitions. “This guy comes to us with Rusty’s stamp of approval and after speaking and spending time with him on numerous occasions, we think he will bring a real sense of fun to the ballpark”, said Cutters Vice-President General Manager Doug Estes. Cutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi added, “The only problem we saw was he had no name. Rusty told us this kid just hung out with the guys in the forest and helped with odd jobs. They liked having him around because he was funny, so they just nicknamed him Bozo. We told him from the start that it’s a fine name, but due to copyright laws, we would not be able to use it. He said “no problem” and gave us carte blanche to come up with a fun name that he will officially adopt.” Fans of any age can submit their name suggestions via email to mail@crosscutters.com or by filling out the official entry forms that will appear periodically in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. All entries must be received no later than April 18. A winner will be announced on or about April 23. The person submitting the winning name will receive a prize package that includes; a 2008 Crosscutters general admission season ticket, $100 in Cutters Cash, a new Cutters cap plus the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Night, June 20 at Bowman Field. In the event that more than one fan submits the same winning name, a winner, from those entries, will be chosen randomly. Merchandise and souvenirs depicting the new mascot will be available during the 2008 Cutters season which begins on June 20 vs. Jamestown.
