Game Recap

Cutters Split a Pair with Jammers
Drop Opener 5-1...Win 2nd 7-6
June 22 -
GAME ONE:  In a game that saw C/DH Scott Thomas up his average to .571, the Williamsport Crosscutters dropped their second in a row to the pesky Jamestown Jammers on Sunday evening.

P Michael Stutes took the hill for the Crosscutters who were in search of their second win of the season, and their first at Historic Bowman Field. Stutes went two innings while surrendering two runs, one earned, four strike-outs, but took the loss for the Cutters. Yen-Feng Lin would follow Stutes and go three innings yielding a run while facing 12 Jammers. Riquy Pena would pitch the last two frames allowing two runs on two hits.

Offensively for the Crosscutters, Thomas went 2-3 with the lone run batted in. 1B Jeremy Hamilton, OF Doug Morales, and 3B Cody Overbeck each collected a hit in the loss.

GAME TWO:  Game 2 of Sunday’s double header was much kinder to the Crosscutters. With all the dramatics of a Hollywood script, the Crosscutters won their first home game on a strikeout with runners threatening.

After a weather delay between games one and two, the Cutters turned it on offensively as they tallied up seven runs for the second time this season.

Williamsport banged out nine hits including three from LF Bryan Frew and two from CF Brandon Haislet. 3B Cody Overbeck hit the first home run of the season for the Crosscutters in the 2nd as the Williamsport scored two runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Relief pitcher Korey Noles took the win as the Cutters improved to 2-4. Starting pitcher Freddy Ballestas yielded five runs, three earned, in four innings of work while also whiffing six Jammers. Eryk McConnell worked the last inning to earn the save.

Jamestown made it interesting in the top of the fifth by scoring three runs to make it a one run game. However, in the bottom of that frame, Frew added an insurance run with a single that scored OF Arlon Quiroz. The Jammers would not bow down, adding another run in the seventh, but McConnell shut all that down with a strike-out of DH Mitch McDonald to end the game.

The Crosscutters will look to add more to their win column when they face off against their rival State College Spikes on Monday. The game can be heard on ESPN 1050 and tickets are available online at crosscutters.com or by calling the Cutters Hotline at (570) 326-3389.
