Roth Shines
as Cutters Top Birds 6-1
Roth, the Phillies 19th round selection in the 2006 draft, didn’t allow a single run, and only surrendered four hits, while striking out four Ironbirds. With the win, Roth is now tied for the New York-Penn League lead in wins (4) and lowered his ERA to 0.69. Reliever B.J. Rosenberg, worked the last two innings, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out four to preserve the win for Williamsport. The Cutters busted the game open in the fifth, when they put up six runs on their opponents. A Scott Thomas walk and a single by OF Arlon Quiroz started the scoring for Williamsport. A double by OF Brandon Haislet would score another run. 2B Bryan Frew drew a walk to put runners on first and second. C Travis d’Arnaud singled in Haislet to add another run in the frame. 3B Cody Overbeck smacked a three run homer to right field to round out the scoring for the Crosscutters. Williamsport will look to build on their win as they play the Ironbirds again at Historic Bowman Field on Sunday at 6:05pm. The game can be heard on ESPN 1050. Recap | Box Score
