New Bowman Field Scoreboard to Debut in 2008!
February 14 - The Williamsport Crosscutters have announced a significant upgrade to Bowman Field for the 2008 season with a new LED scoreboard and display system scheduled for a spring installation.

In announcing the new scoreboard, Vice-President General Manager Doug Estes stated, “With the cooperation of the City of Williamsport along with local and state grants, we have made many improvements to our historic ballpark for the players and fans since our arrival in 1994.  Now the time has come to bring our scoreboard, one of the centerpieces of any stadium, up to the standards that our fans demand and deserve.”  The current Bowman Field scoreboard has been in place since 1987 and before that in use for many years in Buffalo, NY.

The new state-of-the-art scoreboard was designed and manufactured by Daktronics, Inc., the world’s largest supplier of, electronic scoreboards, computer-programmable displays, and large screen video displays.  The company designs, manufactures and services display systems for customers around the world in sport, business and transportation applications.

The new Bowman Field scoreboard features an LED baseball scoreboard and two LED video/message displays, one measuring 8’ x 18’ and the other measuring 2’ x 18’.  Estes went on to say, “The dependability and reliability of this new system will be a welcome addition to Cutters fans.  No more light bulbs burning out and wondering if that is a 6 or an 8 on the scoreboard!   In addition, the scoreboard will give even casual fans the opportunity to identify more with the players as they see they headshots on the board night after night, making it easier to recognize their favorite Cutters.”

The scoreboard, being purchased by the City of Williamsport, is being partially financed through a state grant, secured by Rep. Steve Cappelli.  Estes concluded by stating, “As always the Crosscutters strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable night at the ballpark while still trumpeting the uniqueness of our 82 year old stadium.  We sincerely feel this scoreboard will add to fans enjoyment without feeling out of place in this truly historic setting.”

The scoreboard also features four (4) sponsorship panels, of which two have already been secured by HRI, Inc. based in State College and Professional Petroleum of Williamsport.  Businesses interested in scoreboard sponsorship is asked to call the Crosscutters at (570) 326-3389.

The scoreboard is expected to be ready for the opening of the Crosscutters season on June 20.
